The provincial government is launching a new immigration stream to help attract international doctors and specialists to Nova Scotia.
The stream, which has been approved by the federal government, is a part of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program.
And according to a release from the province, they already have a recruit – Dr. Jamie Tribo, an American doctor who plans on practicing family medicine in Cape Breton this spring.
“We are looking forward to our move to Nova Scotia,” said Dr. Tribo in a news release. “Obtaining a medical license in another country means clearing a lot of hurdles and paperwork before even beginning on immigration requirements. This new immigration program has made the process much simpler and shorter for us, and our recruiter has been a big help along the way.”
Primary care doctors and specialists who have approved job offers from either the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK will have a reduced amount of paperwork.
Because the health authority already assesses education, language ability, certification and credentials as a part of their hiring process, immigration won’t have to duplicate those assessments.
Nova Scotia is the second province in the country to offer a dedicated immigration stream for doctors.
