It’s an exciting time for the playground committee in Mahone Bay.
The idea of a natural playground that will allow kids to safely explore the great outdoors will soon become a reality.
This comes thanks in large part to an $18,000 investment from the province.
Chair, Helen Anabelle says they didn’t expect such strong support.
“I think it just reinforced to us all as a committee that, wow, it’s not just us that want’s this. It’s a whole movement.”
Annable, says their design uses boulders, trees and hills to create a more natural play space.
She says community support has been strong.
“If we’ve heard anything negative it’s come from a lack of understanding of what we’re actually trying to do. So once we’ve had a discussion about ‘Oh, no that’s not what we were thinking,’ then really everybody’s been really supported of it.”
She says, once built, the playground will help kids connect with nature and stay active.
The contract to construct the park will be awarded in the next few weeks with completion planned for fall.
The completed project is expected to cost around $60,000.
