Province provides $180,000 of funding for Argyle volunteer firefighters

Six volunteer fire departments in Argyle are receiving $180,000 in funding from the province.

Amirault’s Hill and Hubbards Point, East Pubnico, Islands and District, Quinan and District, Wedgeport and District and the West Pubnico fire departments.

The money is meant to better equip the departments, and will go towards tools and gear like helmet lights, ladders, portable pumps, rescue tools and more.

Each department is receiving $30,000.

The funding is provided through the Emergency Services Provider Fund, which will fund more than 100 organizations across Nova Scotia with more than $2.7 million for emergency response equipment.

Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc was quick to praise volunteer emergency workers in a post online.

“Our region’s volunteer firefighters always show up when we need them the most, every day of the year, day or night,” said LeBlanc. “And [they] need the right equipment and tools to safely respond.”
