Province Tables $10-Billion Budget

The Nova Scotia government has unveiled a $10-billion budget.

It cuts down the province’s deficit to $97.6-million.

Some highlights, the budget includes over four billion dollars for health and $1.2-billion for education.

Those two departments make up roughly 60 per cent of the province’s budget.

There are also deep cuts to the public service amounting to 320 jobs and bad news for smokers – expect an increase of 0.50 cents for a pack of cigarettes.

Another budget item is the film and television tax credit.

It maintains a $24-million credit this year but will be restructured to $6-million.

The province also decided to maintain the volunteer firefighter and ground search and rescue tax credit.
