Province Unveils 25-Year Electricity Plan

A new electricity plan will mean major changes for Nova Scotia Power.

The provincial government unveiling the 25-year plan following feedback from more than 1,300 people and technical experts.

Under the plan, the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board will set performance standards for the power company.

Penalties up to $1-million could be laid if Nova Scotia Power fails to meet the standards.

A three year stability period from 2017-19 will be set up and power rates will be known to everyone.

Nova Scotia Power must also file a plan to lock in prices to reduce volatility in the cost of fuel over the three years.

The changes will be introduced during the fall sitting of the Legislature.
