Province Won’t Say What Caused Tragic, Fatal Fire In Yarmouth County

The Nova Scotia government will not release the findings of the fire marshal’s investigation into a tragic fire last month that claimed the lives of four children in Yarmouth County.

In an email to our newsroom, Municipal Affairs spokesperson Krista Higdon confirmed that the investigation into the January 7 fire in Pubnico Head has been completed, but she said the cause of the fire would not be released “due to privacy laws.”

Higdon says it is not the practice of the Office of the Fire Marshall to publicly release information contained in investigations reports, including the cause.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has completed autopsies but a spokesperson has previously said findings won’t be released.
