Public Meeting On Policing Tonight In Shelburne

Residents of the Town of Shelburne are being urged to attend a public meeting tonight.

It is the second public engagement session regarding a proposal that would see existing RCMP services replaced by the Bridgewater Police Service.

The session takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelburne Community Centre.

Mayor Karen Mattatall says the presentation will likely be made by Bridgewater’s acting police chief and possibly the mayor of Bridgewater.

“It is an opportunity to hear the proposal, because this is very important to the residents of the Town of Shelburne, should we choose this option.”

Mayor Mattatall says the Bridgewater proposal would save an estimated $100,000 a year.

Currently, it costs Shelburne almost $737,000 for policing services.
