Queens Marks First Year For Lighthouse Rally

It’s a chance for people to learn more about lighthouses in Queens. The first annual Queens County Lighthouse Rally is scheduled for this weekend. People pick up a passport at the South Queens Visitor Information Centre and then explore six lighthouses including the Medway Head, Port Medway, Spectacle, Fort Point, Western Head and Coffin Island beacons. Cathy Pincomb says the rally helps create awareness. She says, “The Canadian government wants nothing to do with them, so they’re endangered in Nova Scotia and the rest of Canada. We felt living on the Lighthouse Route, the idea of losing these beacons was just unacceptable, so the rally is aimed at bringing people together for a fun day and experiencing the lighthouses up close.” The rally will provide information and history on the lighthouses. It kicks off Saturday from 10am-3pm.
