Veterans will benefit from a proposed change to the parking metre bylaw in the Region of Queens.
The change would see free parking at metered spaces to vehicles displaying veteran license plates.
Mayor David Dagley says the idea isn’t new.
“There has been discussion over past years between the legion members and representatives of council. A motion was brought forward by a councillor to request staff to do a report on this issue.”
Other towns who have already adopted this by-law include New Glasgow, Bridgewater and Lunenburg.
Dagley says it’s a small way for council to say thank you to their military members.
“We’re very appreciative of the service and the effort that veterans have provided to our citizens over the years and we wanted to recognize them in this small way with free parking.”
The second reading of the by-law will take place September 26.
If approved, changes would go into effect in early October.
There are 56 parking metres in the Region of Queens, all of them located in Liverpool.
