The Queens Refugee Care Team has raised $30,000 and reached its fundraising goal.
Dr. David Large, the group’s co-chair, says support from the community has been overwhelming.
“I’ve been involved with fundraising efforts in the past and you sort of look for a few thousand dollars to support your charity.”
Sponsor groups are responsible for providing refugees with accommodations, transportation, furniture, food, clothing and other supports.
The group is now waiting for a family of five to be assigned to the area.
