Safety is a priority when travelling on a bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or rollerblades.
It is mandatory to wear a helmet while doing any of those activities.
Constable Rob James of Queens District RCMP is hoping everybody travels safely and obeys the rules.
“Fines can range anywhere from $150 to $350 depending on the offence, the occurance of the offence; whether its your first time or second, up to a third.”
James believes helmets are important for safety and that is why there are laws in place.
“What we’re hoping to stress over the next year or so is that part in parcel of owning a bicycle is also owning a helmet.”
Besides fines, police can also confiscate your bike or scooter for up to 30 days if rules aren’t followed.
