RCMP: Avoid Hydroplaning, Slow Down in Heavy Rain

There’s been some significant rainfall throughout much of Nova Scotia and the South Shore region the past little while and with that comes a safety reminder for drivers.

RCMP are sending out a caution to motorists concerning hydro-planing, especially when driving on 100 series Highways.

Mounties are asking motorists to reduce speed during heavy rainfalls.

This will help to reduce the risk of hydro-planing, a phenomenon that occurs when water builds up between your wheels and the road surface, reducing traction.

Motorists are also asked to avoid hard braking in very wet conditions, avoid sharp turns or quick turns, do NOT drive with Cruise Control on and try to avoid puddles or standing water.
