RCMP charge man, 19, following Wolfville protest investigation

One person has been charged following an RCMP investigation into last weeks incident involving Premier Houston and a group of protesters in Wolfville.

It was on July 15 when RCMP had responded to concerns over safety during an event at Acadia University. A man climbed onto the Premier’s car and smashed the windshield while other protesters blocked the driver from leaving.

After two days of investigation, officers identified and safely arrested a 19-year-old man from Kentville. His first court appearance was on Monday, July 20, and he remains in custody pending a future court date.

Officers clarify that this person is not the same individual who was arrested and released without charge on the day of the protest.

RCMP says people have a protected right to lawfully, peacefully, and safely protest, but that those who threaten the safety of anyone or anything will be investigated fully by police, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
