RCMP: Lunenburg Assault Claim Unfounded

A Lunenburg resident is warning people to be careful when walking at night.

Linda Blumenthal wrote a letter to the editor in the LighthouseNOW Progress Bulletin detailing an assault she contends took place in town.

Blumenthal says she was taking photos of Christmas lights when a car stopped and someone jumped out and threatened her.

Later, as she was walking home she says a group of teens knocked her to the ground and sprayed her with pop.

However, RCMP Sergeant Bruce Briers says officers looked into the complaint.

“The officer that attended investigated both the threats and the assault complaint and determined that neither one had taken place as reported,” says Briers. “There was an issue in relation to public intoxication. However on police discretion, no charges were laid in relation to that matter.”

Briers says no charges will be laid and the investigation is closed.
