Safety on the province’s highways are a top concern for RCMP.
Lunenburg County has seen an increase in the number of accidents and stunting charges this fall.
Sergeant Mark MacPherson drivers still are not getting the message that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
“We realize it’s a sign of the times but they’re on their phone and they have to respond. Just pull over. Take a few seconds and pull over. Really the last thing you should be worried about is seeing a police car while you’re texting and driving. It should be that you’re about to cause a collision.”
MacPherson says accidents happen when you least expect it.
“We need people to buy in and help us out here too and protect their own communities and their own roadways by being involved and doing the right thing and making the roads safer. That goes for impaired driving, that goes for everything.”
He encourages people not to drink and drive, put down phones, reduce their speed and don’t follow too close.
MacPherson says drivers will notice an increased presence as RCMP are increasing their focus on road safety.
