RCMP officers will now have to take an extra step to be re-certified to carry a gun.
A new training program is being rolled out aimed at keeping members safe when they’re required to draw a weapon.
Sergeant Steve Burke says each year will focus on a different skill to be upgraded.
Part of this year’s training is what to do when something goes wrong.
“When our members may have a malfunction with their pistol we’re practicing how they can clear those malfunctions quickly and efficiently.”
Courses will begin this week.
Burke says each officer has until next spring to complete the training.
