Red Light Violations Focus Of School Bus Safety Week

Red light violations are being highlighted as School Bus Safety Week opens in Nova Scotia.

The issue has been a concern across the province – with more than 300 violations in two months.

School Board Transportation Coordinator, Denise Crouse, says that includes several cases in the South Shore.

“We had 21 red light violations in the month of September, alone. It’s pretty staggering, four on the first day of school but no one was injured.”

A conviction for passing a school bus with its red lights flashing can result in six demerit points on a driver’s record.

Fines also range from over $400 for a first offence to about $1,300 for a third offence.
