It’s hot, very hot; and when the mercury rises, driving a vehicle can be a daunting task especially when travelling long distances.
And with that in mind, drivers may want to be a little more alert while out and about on roads and highways throughout the province.
RCMP Corporal Jennifer Clarke notes the nice hot summer weather brings a lot of people out on vacation or even day trips so drivers will want to ensure they are paying attention.
“What we would like to advise people is certainly to focus on the driving and do what you can to avoid the distractions that might be inside your vehicle,” says Clarke.
Those distractions can include loud music, consuming food or drink, other passengers in the car and of course cell phones.
“We know the roads are little bit busier this time of year and that fatigue can certainly be a form of distracted driving from our perspective,” notes Clarke.
If you’re feeling tired, find a rest stop or safe place to pull your vehicle over and rest.
Staying alert will help keep everyone safe while travelling on the roads this summer.
