Renovations Underway At Mahone Bay Town Hall

Mahone Bay’s Town Hall is over a century old and is in need of some major work, some of which is already underway.

Contractors are currently working to repair some water damage on the front side of the building that was discovered during the renovation process.

Chief Administration Officer for Mahone Bay Dylan Heide says the work currently being done is the most essential.

“The things we are working on now needed to be done, as you can imagine with a building this old there are lots of things that require fixing some of the work is necessary in order to keep the building, safe” Heide said.

The town has plans for further work on the building though most of them still need approval from the council.

Specifically, the town plans to install an accessible entrance on the backside of the building which faces Aberdeen Street and they will be looking to update the exterior of the building in the near future.

In an effort to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 the town also plans to install new windows, insulation and additional heat pumps to make the building more energy-efficient.

The current phase of work that is underway which was primarily addressing safety issues has been delayed as a result of the water damage that was discovered.

Heide says they can’t say for sure when Town Hall will reopen to the public but they are hoping it will reopen its doors sometime this Spring.

The town is asking that people avoid Town Hall as it is currently an active construction site.

During the construction, any mail intended for Town Hall can be dropped off at the Mahone Bay Fire Hall (184 Kinburn Street).
