ROQ, Province Agree To Widen Road Near Carter’s Beach

Access to Carter’s Beach in Port Mouton will soon be improved.

The Region of Queens and Department of Transportation will widen the final 40 metres of the Carter’s Beach Road to allow vehicles to pass safely.

The narrow roadway and a lack of parking has been an ongoing concern.

It is a cost shared agreement between the two units, with each covering roughly $7,500.

Mayor Christopher Clarke says the move will eliminate ‘No Parking’ signs and allow drivers to utilize both sides of the road.

“Carter’s Beach is not the hidden gem that it has been for so many years. A lot of people are recognizing it as one of the best beaches in the province and so, we’re getting a lot of traffic down there.”

Work to start widening the road is expected to begin this summer, likely in September.

Clarke says they are also discussing options to make the dunes, estuary and other features of the beach a nature reserve.
