Scholarship Created In Memory of David and Heather Abriel

A scholarship is being created to remember two pillars of Mahone Bay.

David and Heather Abriel were killed in a car accident on Highway 103 on February 2.

They were both avid supporters of traditional music of the North Atlantic Tionól.

Artistic Director Ben Reid says the scholarship will honour the Abriel’s memory and impact to the music community of the Maritimes.

“The best way to honour their memory we thought was to keep furthering the music for as many people as possible, particularly young musicians, which they seemed quite passionate about supporting.”

The scholarship will be awarded to a person under 21 years-old and cover registration costs to attend the North Atlantic Tionól in PEI this June.

“We want to encourage younger musicians to get better at their craft, get better with their instruments and increase our festival’s profile by providing a boost to the local community.”

The winner will be announced March 25.
