The South Shore Regional Centre For Education has sent information about the MOMO challenge to schools.
Communications Manager Angelina McConnell wants to assure parents that teachers are talking to students about cyber-safety.
“Even though it’s a hoax, it’s still scaring children. And unfortunately, these internet hoaxes keep popping up so we have to keep addressing them.”
McConnell says students are talking about MOMO amongst themselves and it’s important parents know how to approach the subject.
“Making sure your child’s online activity is monitored, and that there are parental controls on their devices and that they know that they can come talk to you if they see disturbing content or things that scare them.”
McConnell suggests parents remind their kids that MOMO isn’t real and can’t hurt them.
She has provided a series of links to help parents have those discussions.
