Schooners, Sloops Prepare To Sail Into Bridgewater

Canada Day on the LaHave in Bridgewater looks a little different this year.

Schooners and sloops from the Nova Scotia Schooner Association and LaHave River Yacht Club will participate in a parade of sail into Pijinuiskaq Park today around 3 p.m.

The vessels will be open to the public at the new floating docks.

Senior member of the Schooner Association, Bruce Halliday, says the LaHave River is a beautiful spot for sailing.

“It will be quite a spectacle with a number of boats all coming at the same time especially as we get further up the river where it narrows; people will get a good view of us sailing in close proximity.”

The schooners and sloops will be on site until roughly 6 p.m.

There will also be a variety of dances going on including African and Mi’kmaq as well as Celtic music and the Bridgewater Fire Department Band.
