The senior wheels bus service is driving its way to some significant milestones.
The free transportation for disabled or senior citizens in Bridgewater and surrounding area is approaching its 200,000th ride.
Jerome Tanner recently spoke on behalf of the association at town council.
“We realize that not everyone is aware of this important service to the community. We would encouraged seniors and those disabled to use this service. To access this service, call Scotia Business Centre.”
The Senior Wheels Association was started by the Kiwanis Club of Bluenose Golden K in 1992 and will mark its 25th anniversary next May.
Tanner says the by-appointment works best as opposed to a fixed route service.
“They don’t, first of all, like to wait for a bus and they like to do it by appointment. To put them on a fixed route it would just extend their time and I don’t think they would like that.”
Tanner says they have nearly 20 volunteer drivers but more are welcome.
The nine passenger, wheelchair accessible bus provides about 600 rides a month.
