Shelburne: Amalgamation Talks At An Impasse – Municipal Warden

Amalgamation talks have reached an impasse in Shelburne, according to the warden of the municipality.

Roger Taylor says municipal council believes the Town of Shelburne needs to mitigate financial risks before moving ahead with any form of consolidation.

The town has explored the possibility of annexing the municipality with Lockeport.

Taylor says it’s not a good idea.

“There has never been a successful annexation in the Province of Nova Scotia where it’s been contested.”

He says the municipality will oppose any effort of annexation.

Taylor suggests the move would cost each town about $200,000.

The next step for the towns is not known at this time.
