Shelburne Aquaculture Site Will Continue To Be Monitored

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture says no reportable disease was found in dead fish discovered in Shelburne Harbour

The kill occurred at an aquaculture site following a bad storm on February 15.

Minister Keith Colwell says the site has experienced a higher than expected rate of fish mortality since the storm and as a precaution, aquatic animal health staff from the department took samples and will continue to monitor the site.

“All the sites in the province are under a protocol for inspections and we do routine inspections on everything in the province, so it would be just part of the normal process we go through.”

Colwell says staff has concluded that the storm killed the fish.
