Just over a week remains to try and get funding for local lighthouses.
The ‘This Lighthouse Matters’ contest runs until July 15.
There are four South Shore beacons involved including the Sandy Point Lighthouse in Shelburne.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says they aren’t competing against any local groups.
“The other two that we’re competing the most strongly against one is in Annapolis and the other is in Cape Breton and they’re certainly encouraging their people to vote. At the moment, we’re in third place.”
Two other lighthouses in Queens County and one in Lunenburg are also garnering votes.
The top three vote getters in each category receive cash prizes between $5,000 and $75,000.
The National Trust for Canada and Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society organized the contest.
