A Shelburne County man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years behind bars for assaulting his infant son.
The 28 year-old man, who cannot be named due to a publication ban to protect the infant’s identify, was convicted in July in Supreme Court for aggravated assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence.
The incident stems back to November 2011 when the infant was flown to the IWK in Halifax with injuries including a skull fracture and brain swelling.
The child’s mother says justice has finally been served.
“This has been going on for five years now so I’m just glad we get some closure in that sense, but otherwise, the consequences of his actions will always live on.”
The mother says her son has been left with life-long physical and mental disabilities.
The man is not allowed to own any firearms for 10 years and will also have to provide a DNA sample.
