Big news for people waiting on a new health clinic in Shelburne County.
The province has laid out the timeline for the long awaited collaborative health centre.
Stantec was chosen to design the facility, which will take between six and seven months.
While design is underway, construction will start with the demolition of the old building and site preparation for the new building this fall.
The new medical centre will be located on the same site as the current facility.
The facility is expected to be complete in winter of 2018.
Warden Roger Taylor says while he’s happy to hear work is beginning, a two year wait is unacceptable.
“I’m not prepared to sit back and accept their timelines,” he says. “The people of Shelburne have already been waiting much too long. I believe there has to be a way to expedite this.”
He says people are leaving the area because of the lack of reliable medical care and something needs to be done.
The project has a cost of $3.4-million, which includes demolition and new construction.
