Shelburne; Queens Counties Hit Hard By Storm Says Nova Scotia Power

As of 12: 20 p.m. there are still over 800 power outages across the province caused by yesterday’s storm.

But Nova Scotia Power continues to reconnect customers with the number at just over 28,000 still without service.

Spokesperson Tiffany Chase says there was a lot of damage in Shelburne and Queens Counties, in places like Baccaro and West Head.

She says heavy, wet snow and winds gusting to more than 110 km/h in some areas caused damage to the power system, including broken poles, downed wires, and snow weighing trees onto power lines.

“We are seeing some restorations taking place in the southern end of the province. So right now we’re looking at still about 7,000 customers affected in the Shelburne and Liverpool areas.” As our damage assessors are able to get out to individual outage locations, we’re learning a lot more about the type of specific damage. that allows us to update our estimated restoration times.”

She says there are just over 100 customers still without power in the Yarmouth area.
