Shelburne: Town Opens Tap To Residents After Wells Run Dry

The dry condition is affecting some homeowners in Shelburne.

Wells have gone dry and the town is offering residents water from an open tap at the Guild Hall washroom at 20 Maiden Lane.

Mayor Karen Mattatall says it may not be suitable for drinking.

“Because it is an outside tap, we can’t guarantee there may not be some germ or whatever on that tap. We’re telling people that they really should use it for bathing, dishes and other things like this.”

Mattatall says although the town’s reservoir is doing well, she is asking people to limit quantities to conserve water for others.

She doesn’t recall a drier period in the town and says they are in desperate need of rain.
