Smoke Detector Saves Yarmouth Family Of Four

A smoke detector helped a family of four escape injuries from a house fire.

Two adults and two children were sleeping when the fire broke out at their home on Brunswick Street in Yarmouth early Thursday morning.

Fire chief, John Verrall says the fire started on the deck and burned up the outside wall and into the house, setting off the alarm.

“The family was woken up by the smoke detector, which was great. The got up, the kids got up and did exactly what they were taught in school. They got out and everybody was safe,” said Verrall.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze quickly and save the home.

Cause of the fire is unknown.
