SSRSB Approves 2015-16 Budget

It’s a balanced budget for the South Shore Regional School Board.

The budget for 2015-16 is $75.5-million.

However, it didn’t come easy.

Fifteen teaching positions were eliminated due to declining enrolment and reduced unrestricted funding.

The board is projecting a decline of about 200 students next year.

Director of Finance, Wade Tattrie, says they also need to cover a three per cent salary increase.

The board will gain 12 specialty positions for things like the early years centre in New Germany, reading recovery, schools plus, and early math intervention after a $900,000 increase in restricted funding.

Capital projects, including upgrades to improve efficiency will occur over the summer.
