Still… A Bit More Rain

Things are still very dry around this area. Okay… maybe not a dry as the picture above, but not far off.

I was noticing over the weekend that there are some places that would normally have a a river where it is more like a series of puddles. And if you happen to be on a well, I’m sure you’re pretty familiar with the situation.

This could well be one of the driest summers ever. A few years ago when we had a really dry summer, it seemed as though the water table changed. Places where water would normally gather went dry, and seem to go dry faster in the years that followed.

Maybe I am just imagining things, but it just seems like ground water seems to disappear faster.

The latest forecast from the Canadian Farmer’s Almanac is telling us that things will start to cool down and get wetter at the end of September. That would be a good thing, but we can use a bit of rain before then. Quite a bit.

We did have a couple days of rain last week. A couple of pretty fair soakings that seemed have little or no effect on our lakes and rivers.

Really, I don’t think the water ever reached the lakes and rivers, or wells, for that matter. I think the trees and bushes are so thirsty, they’re just sucking everything up as soon as it hits the ground. But we could sure use more.
