South Shore Public Libraries is celebrating Family Literacy Day with a special story time.
Two mayors, two MLAs and the MP for South Shore-St. Margaret’s will be at the Margaret Hennigar Library on Saturday reading some of their favourite children’s books.
Chief Librarian Troy Myers says the need for story has been part of our culture for centuries.
“Storytelling is just sort of burned into our DNA,” he says. “I think it goes back to when one guy stood up and started telling a story in the oral tradition and we were all just so entranced by it.”
Myers says literacy is more important than ever in this age of information.
He says if you want your kids to fall in love with reading, story time is a great place to start.
The event gets underway at 10:15.
