The season is over for the Yarmouth Junior ‘A’ Mariners. A three goal second period helped lift the Truro Bearcats to a 5-3 win over Yarmouth in game five of their first round MHL playoff series. Mateo Short scored twice while Captain Ryan Daley added the other goal.

The Halifax Mooseheads fell 3-2 in overtime to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to tie their playoff series at one. Game three goes Tuesday night in Halifax.

In Midget X hockey, the South Shore take on West Hants today at 1:30 at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

In the NHL, Columbus shutout Philly 1-0, Vancouver doubled Minnesota 4-2, Washingto beat Arizona 4-1, the Bruins edged the Islanders 2-1, Calgary got by St. Louis 3-2 in overtime, New Jersey lost 3-1 to Carolina, Florida dumped the Blackhawks 7-0, Montreal defeated Ottawa 3-1, Buffalo beat Toronto 5-2, Nashville powered past the Sharks 7-2, the Rangers shutout the Kings 3-0 and Edmonton won 4-1 over Colorado.

Canada finished off the Women’s World Curling Championship in style, winning the gold medal after an 8-3 victory over Russia. Rachel Homan’s team capped an unforgettable week that saw them go a perfect 13-0. It’s the first gold medal at the worlds for a Canadian women’s team since 2008.

The Toronto Raptors clinched a playoff spot after a 94-86 win over the Dallas Mavericks. The Raptors have won five straight.
