Super Mario Day

Today’s one of those delightfully nerdy calendar moments, it’s MAR10… which fans everywhere read as Mario. And just like that, March 10th has become Super Mario Day.

What started as a clever bit of wordplay has grown into a full-on celebration of one of the most iconic characters in entertainment history. Mario first popped up on screens back in 1981, and he didn’t just stick around, he became the face of Nintendo and one of the most recognizable characters on the planet.

Side-scrolling adventures. Kart racing chaos. Party games that end friendships. Entire generations grew up with that music, those sound effects, and the simple mission to rescue a princess.

And Mario didn’t stay confined to consoles. The Mushroom Kingdom expanded into theme parks, animated movies, toys, merch, basically a pop-culture universe built around a mustached plumber in red overalls.

It’s nostalgia for a lot of people. For others, it’s just another excuse to pick up a controller and jump back in.

Either way, today’s a fun little reminder of how something simple, colourful, and a bit whimsical became timeless.

Below is the intro to The Super Mario Brother’s Super Show from 1989 to potentially give you a hit of nostalgia!
