Taxes On The Rise In Lunenburg

Taxes are on the way up for homeowners and businesses in Lunenburg.

Lunenburg Town council approved the 2017/18 budget at their meeting on Tuesday.

Homeowners will see an increase of 1.9 cents per $100 while businesses will pay an extra cent per $100 of assessed value.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says town operations run very lean.

“The staff has been diligent in looking at what we do expend for operating and there is not a lot of excess, there has never been.”

Bailey says the town has also taken on a number of infrastructure projects in order to take advantage of matching funding from the province and federal government.
