Teachers Union Supports Inclusion Report, Calls On Government For Funding

The president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union is pleased with the Inclusive Education report.

Liette Doucet says the recommendations highlight what teachers have been asking for for years.

“It’s validation of the teacher’s concerns. What we need now is a commitment from government to implement the report, to put the funding in that is necessary.”

Doucet says the union is willing to work with the province to ensure the needs of students and teachers are met.

However, she cautions government to take their time.

“In the past, we have seen implementation of programs that haven’t worked because they’ve been implemented too quickly.”

Doucet is glad to see $15 million allocated for inclusion spending in the most recent budget.

But warns to implement all the recommendations, government will need to commit a great deal more money over the next five years.
