Team Nova Scotia Changing Colours For World Junior Curling Championships

Team Nova Scotia is now Team Canada after their win in Quebec last weekend.

The women defeated the home-team in the 2018 New Holland Canadian Juniors.

That gives them their pass to the World Junior Curling Championships.

Coach Andrew Atherton will be behind the bench for the second time in three years at this tournament.

The Chester native says he’s excited to wear the red and white.

“It’s pretty awesome, what else can you say,” he says.

“You’re going to put the Maple Leaf on your back, that’s always exciting.”

This is the second gold-medal Atherton and his team have won at Canadian Juniors.

The only difference is they have two new faces – skip Kaitlyn Jones and lead Lindsey Burgess.

They are the two newest additions to the team, and Atherton says they will utilize their teammate’s experience.

“It’s what you work for, it’s what you put all the time in for, but very few people get the opportunity and even fewer get it twice,” he says.

“I’m just thrilled to be able to go and to have a lot of fun.The girls are a great group of girls to spend time with so we’re going to have fun in Scotland and see how it goes.”

Atherton says they’re taking the week off to relax, and begin regular practices next week.

They head to Aberdeen, Scotland March 3-10.
