Drivers in Shelburne could soon be in for a smoother ride at Exit 26 on Highway 103.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is close to awarding a tender to make upgrades to the exit’s interchange.
It could be awarded this week or next.
Spokesperson Brian Taylor says the project will add acceleration and deceleration lanes.
“People will be able to peel out of the traffic to turn out onto the exit and then also have a lane to accelerate and merge easier going into the traffic
Taylor adds there will be raised concrete islands and the changes should improve traffic safety.
The upgrade is listed as a priority in the Department of Transportation’s most recent five-year highway improvement plan for 2017-18.
Work is expected to begin next month and finish by April 1.
