The Ban Hammer

Just reading a news story about a university in Australia that has banned mullets – you know the old hairstyle where it’s business in the front (short) and party in the back (long)

It got me thinking about all the school bans I’ve encountered over the years.

The first one I remember is in elementary school – they banned Red Rover on the playground, mostly because some kid would get clotheslined and cry and complain to the teachers.

Then they banned Clackers. Remember those dangerous little glass balls on string that would explode and send little shards of glass into your face?

When my kids were in school they banned Pogs and Pokemon. I have no idea why but it might have had something to do with gambling.

I’m a guy, so I didn’t have to deal with dress codes like the girls in our school had to navigate every day of the school year, but I heard they could change the rules on a dime.

What bans occurred at your school?
