The Greener Side Of Real Christmas Trees

Real versus fake. It’s an annual argument that people get into every year at this time. Which tree is the greener of the two.

Sweetwood Farm on the South Shore has an idea that will tip the balance in favour of the real tree argument.

The farm’s owner, Heather Squires said Christmas trees are a delicacy for her dairy goats.

“Dairy goats natural habitat would be brush ground. They love anything that is shrub or tree-like and they love Christmas trees. And on the health side it’s really great because there’s certain properties to fir trees and spruce trees that are good their diet. We can’t bring them into the woods this time of year but if the trees can come to them, that’s great,” said Squires.

Squires will also take your pumpkins. The seeds have an anti-worming property also good goats and her herd of tamworth pigs.

Christmas trees can be dropped off at Sweetwood Farms on January 9th. She suggests bringing the kids to visit the baby goats while you’re at it.
