David Bowie made it into space a couple days ago. Not the real David Bowie. A coin featuring David Bowie that is currently available from the Royal Mint.
This is the third coin in the music legend series the mint has released. Queen and Elton John can also be carried about in your pocket or purse. But Bowie is the first to go into space. Actually, the first British coin in space.
While the coin was officially in space, it wasn’t far in space. And it did come back down. They even released a video of the journey of the coin, which features the lightening bolt motif from his Aladdin Sane period. There are different versions of the coin available, including one where they have added some sort of sparkley stuff to the lightening bolt. When you think of it, Bowie and glitter do seem to go together in some ways.
But one of these coins was sent up, flew around for about 45 minutes and came back down. I’m not sure exactly what it was attached to. It could be the world’s longest selfie stick. The coin is attached to something along those lines, as you can see it flying above the clouds.
If you order one, it probably won’t be the one that actually went to space. But it would be an interesting coin to have around for any Bowie fan.
