The Town of Lunenburg is moving ahead with making clear garbage bags mandatory. Council has voted in favor of the change. Mayor Rachel Bailey says it makes more sense in expanding the whole recycling and composting process. She says: “Put compost where it belongs. Put recyclables where they belong. So, it just makes the whole system work more effectively”. The by-law regarding garbage pickup and disposal will have to be altered and approved before the changes are implemented. As in neighboring communities where similar changes are taking place, one dark bag for personal refuse will be allowed per pickup. It could be several months before the change comes into effect in Lunenburg.
