A bridge in Liverpool that has been closed for almost two years could soon have new life.
The Queens Rails to Trails Association has reached an agreement with the municipality to take over control of the Trestle Trail Bridge.
President Brian Hatt says he’s hopeful to get enough funding to repair the bridge within two years.
“Our objective would be to complete a trail that joins Brooklyn to Port Mouton and route it through Liverpool.”
The Trestle Trail Bridge has been closed since November 2014 after it was deemed unsafe.
Hatt says once repairs are done to the bridge they would convert it to include access to ATVs.
“We would be complete from county line to county line for multi-use. You could go from Lunenburg County to Shelburne County on an ATV, a horse or bicycle.”
Estimates to fix the bridge are as high as $750,000.
Hatt says the association plans to investigate funding opportunities within the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
The association would also be responsible for managing the trail.
