Triple Treat In The Skies Tonight – Snow Moon, Lunar Eclipse, and Comet

You may want to check out the skies tonight for what’s being dubbed a “triple treat”.

According to NASA, skywatchers can look forward to the Snow Moon, a lunar eclipse, and a comet tonight.

The Snow Moon refers to the full moon in February, nicknamed as such because it’s typically the snowiest month of the year.

The penumbral lunar eclipse is not as spectacular as you may think, as it occurs when the moon moves into the shadow of the earth and is blocked from the sun.

The moon will appear dimmer, or possibly a red color, and the eclipse will happen at 8:43 Atlantic.

Comet 45P, also known as the “New Year Comet” will make its closest approach to earth, only 7.4 million miles away.

You can check it out after midnight in the constellation Hercules. Look for a blue-green head with a tail.

If you miss it, Comet 45P will be back in the year 2022.
