*An earlier version of this story mis-identified the event as “Trick or Trunk”. That has been corrected.
Ghosts and goblins got an early start in Bridgewater this weekend.
The first annual Trunk or Treat took place in the parking lot of the LCLC.
People decorate their cars for Halloween and hand out treats to kids from their trunk.
Reena and Luke Wentzell organized the event which also included a pumpkin carving contest and awards for best trunk decorations.
Reena Wentzell says their idea isn’t to replace Halloween, which is why Trunk or Treat took place on the weekend.
She says people in rural areas sometimes miss out on the fun, and they wanted to bring Halloween to people who don’t see many trick or treaters.
“People like me who love Halloween and love seeing the kids dressed up and decorating their house. It was just an opportunity for them to have that experience that they wouldn’t normally have at home.”
Wentzell says 11 cars gave out treats to around 150 kids, and she hopes to see those numbers grow next year.
