United Way Asks People To Shovel The Extra Mile

Monday’s snowfall marks the beginning of shoveling season and the United Way is reminding people to help those most in need.

Plow it Forward is in it’s second year.

The idea is to create a relationship with someone who doesn’t have the physical capability to shovel their own driveway and volunteer to help them out this winter.

Coordinator Michael Graves says for many seniors snow is much more than an inconvenience.

“If they’re receiving any care, particularly from any health care organizations, the workers aren’t allowed to go into that particular house so that senior doesn’t receive care on that particular day.”

Graves says a good way to find someone in need is to walk around your neighborhood after a snowfall and look for people struggling to clear their driveway.

He says it’s a small act that can make a big difference.
