United Way of Lunenburg County Supports Seniors Safety

A program providing information to help seniors combat fraud or hoarding has received a boost from the United Way of Lunenburg County.

A presentation was held earlier this week to give $5,280 to Safe Communities Lunenburg County.

The money will go to the program’s Senior Safety Advisory Partnership.

Chair David Walker says it will continue to help raise awareness.

“It’s a program that’s not stagnant, it’s growing. The needs and the issues are just getting I don’t know if worse is the right word but they’re getting more involved and effecting more and more people.”

As of right now, Lunenburg County has one person to coordinate seniors safety.

Walker says there is a need for more help and they continue to search for new funding sources.

The program costs $55,000 a year to run.

They receive help from the Department of Seniors, local municipalities, community health board along with the United Way of Lunenburg County.

Walker says he’s glad those groups recognize the program’s value to protect seniors.
